Psychology and Kundalini: Conclusion

Psychology and Kundalini: Conclusion 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

“The chakras are symbols for human levels of consciousness. Ethically and psychologically we can distinguish three different psychical localizations.”

Three Levels of Consciousness

1) Mūlādhāra-Svādhisthana: Region of the Primative (unconscious, instinctive, and involved in participation mystique). “Life appears here as an occurrence, so to speak, without ego. One is not aware that one want or does things; everything happens in 3rd person.

2) Manipūra-Anāhata: Region of the Diaphragm (oscillations up and down, above and beneath). “Beneath, all occurrence is self-evident - emotional and constant victim to passions. Above, in the heart, is the first notion of the Self.”

3) Viśuddha-Ājñā: Region of the Spirit (Cosmic-World Consciousness). “The viśuddha center expresses the word, and what surpasses this would be the center of abstraction.”

This conclusion will touch upon the many psychological points made throughout the lectures, as well as a personal take on these psychological interpretations.

Throughout this series, I hope you gained clarity on some key points about the nature of consciousness.

Key Terms and Psychological Meanings

Kundalini

The “awakening” of a relationship with the unconscious mind. The “world of eternity, different from our world.”

Sthūla

Reality as it appears to our senses. Personal, subjective scope of consciousness.

Sūksma

Hidden, objective workings inside the sthūla scope of consciousness. Dynamics or roots underneath sthūla judgment.

Mūlādhāra

1st root chakra. This is EGO consciousness, grounded on earth. Our present psychic situation. The entanglement and dependence on our conscious life as it actually is.

Svādhisthana

2nd sacral chakra. This is the start of EGO-consciousness dipping into the “water” of the unconscious. The first step in expanding consciousness and confronting shadow aspects of Self.

Manipūra

3rd solar plexus chakra. This is the realm of emotions and desires. This is a region of fire and unleashing all shadow aspects of Self.

Anāhata

4th heart chakra. This is the region where emotions are overcome and the process of individuation begins. You are not merely reacting from instincts, rather beginning to see Truth. This is a gate towards the land of the eternal (higher consciousness).

Viśuddha

5th throat chakra. Here, abstract thinking is possible as the subjective concept of the world is expanded. A full recognition of the psychical essences or substances as the fundamental essences of the world.

Ājñā

6th third eye chakra. This is a complete detachment from the subjective experience, into objective reality.

Sahasrara

7th crown chakra. This chakra is impossible to describe psychologically as it is beyond any conception of consciousness within the field of psychology. For reference, see information regarding para-psychology.

A Humble-U Take On The Series

Well, overall it has been a wonderful series. There are so many ways to describe consciousness, whether it be through alchemical texts, religious scripts, or within Kundalini yoga. The beautiful aspect of Kundalini yoga is its ability to connect the mind and body. It teaches a way to obtain higher awareness both psychically and physically. While much of this series focused on the mental aspect of Kundalini, there is another side that has to do with the body. I had included the regions of the body where each energy center, chakra, is located. Through focus on individual regions, you may “unstuck” yourself mentally, physically, and energetically.

In my opinion, it is important to focus on the mental processes going on in line with your outer work. If you are working on an area, say the throat chakra, yet notice you’re inability to match the psychological representation, that is the ability to fully grasp the psychical essence of your inner world, it may be difficult to truly LIVE this out. This is why this series focused on the psychology of the chakras. Without the inner changes, nothing is truly accomplished. As within, so without.

To close, this series shows how one can expand in consciousness. It takes a true Self devotion in order to truly experience what this series has to offer. That is a rise, connection, and fall, into the depths of the mind. Followed by an awakening of the unconscious mind. Then the burning and sacrificing of worldly passions. Through time splitting and uniting of opposites in the heart, out of love. Then, entering the eternal and speaking its Truth. In the end, it results in a true connection to Nature. To Self. To Life.
