This pair of poles, or opposites, are our favorite to explore.

It is crucial to understand for any psychological growth. Without the knowledge between the conscious and unconscious, life can turn into complete chaos.

As my mentor C. G. Jung states,

“Our consciousness doesn’t create itself - it wells up from unknown depths. In childhood it awakens gradually, and all through life it wakes each morning out of the depths of sleep from an unconscious condition” (CW 11, Paragraph 935)

From this quote, you can derive the equation necessary to master this balance. Unconscious contents must be integrated and accepted into consciousness. If not, these contents will fester and cause an imbalance in your psyche (mind).

The unconscious realm is where psychological principles such as our shadow and complexes lie.

You may be wondering…

What is specifically in the unconscious realm?

A Few Examples

1. Dark or Negative Suppressed Thoughts/Emotions

2. Inherited Traits

3. Limiting Beliefs

4. Past Experiences (Trauma)

5. Ancient Archetypes

6. Perceptions

7. Subjective Truths

From these few examples, you can get an idea on where to aim.

Now the question remains,

How do I integrate this material into consciousness?

First, you need to keep an eye on your unconscious content. Watch your triggers, journal your dreams, and pay attention to your judgements.

Next, you must accept this material. If it is a traumatic event, it may take years to accept this content. Other content will be easier to handle and may provide you tools/insights for future use.

This process is a long, everlasting journey of becoming. A process of making the unknown, know.

Balance is KEY to every pair of opposites. To view the world, wholeness must be applied to your lens. Without it, you may become stuck at one end of the whole.

For example, if one becomes overly conscious (many call this phenomenon an inflated EGO) they will lose focus on the unconscious. A shadow may be building, waiting for a future date to shake you out of your “world”.

Keep focus, YOU got this!
