Syzygy Possession
The Unconscious Realm - Possessed By The Syzygy
•
We want to begin this by relating the anima and animus (the syzygy) and the shadow. The shadow is suppressed negative aspects that we do not wish to accept and integrate into awareness. The shadow is built by suppression, expressed through projection, and may become overpowering through possession.
•
In this example of the shadow, we notice the phases of the inner anima or animus. That is: suppression, projection, possession.
•
Without integration, all phases are noticed. The more that is suppressed and projected, the more likely possession will take place. Possession is dangerous to the ego/conscious mind.
Why?
It changes our nature without our conscious intention. This is why I am always discussing the integrating of unconscious information (e.g. the shadow) so the ego is within our conscious control.
Possession occurs when these inner gender energies are rejected.
•
Anima Possession:
When a man becomes anima possessed, he is generally moody, sensitive and resentful, and his emotions are easily hurt.
It can be labeled or viewed as “toxic femininity”.
Animus Possession:
When a woman becomes animus possessed, she is generally opinionated, argumentative, stern and emotionally “hardened”. It can be labeled as “toxic masculinity”.
•
“Possession caused by the anima or animus presents a different picture. . . .In the state of possession both figures lose their charm and their values; they retain them only when they are turned away from the world, in the introverted state, when they serve as bridges to the unconscious.” - C. G. Jung

The only way to take back your ego and become your true self, you must accept your opposite masculine or feminine side. This integration is critical for balance. Think yin and yang. This will be the next topic of discussion.
